Heidekrautbahn Museum
On track for adventure
The Heidekrautbahn is a railway track running from northern Berlin, through Basdorf, to the districts of Oberhavel and Barnim in Brandenburg.
Things really get chugging at Basdorf station, where, in addition to the modern Heidekrautbahn (RB27), its historic predecessors also stop by on special occasions. These include the St Nicholas (6th December) and Advent rides on the festively decorated steam train from Berlin-Wilhelmsruh, through Mühlenbecker Land, to Basdorf. The roar of an original steam engine and the squeaking of an old GDR railcar are music to the ears of loyal railway enthusiasts.
Fortunately for all those thirsty for knowledge, there’s the Heidekrautbahn Museum serving a valuable dose of nostalgia. A place with lots of things for railway adventurers of all ages to discover, it presents stories and treasures in its showrooms, outdoor area and vehicle halls. Whether it be old signal-box technology, original workshops or the ‘Hampelmann’, the Heidekrautbahn Museum is an informative and fascinating walk through engineering history.
A must for hobby train conductors!
