Watershed
A boulder in the park.
The watershed between the North Sea, Baltic Sea, Elbe River, Oder River, Lake Wandlitz and Lake Liepnitzsee cuts through Barnim. Anyone wanting to learn more about it should stop by the little park just outside the Lake Wandlitz bathing beach, where the natural phenomenon is presented on the Schwalbenberg as a work of art. The Wandlitz Wasserscheidestein is a 1000kg Ice-Age boulder skilfully staged by Wandlitz artist Annelie Grund, who has created an ensemble of stone, space, waterspout and plaque. The boulder is a reddish colour when dry, and glitters silvery-grey when wet.
Art as a monument.
The Wandlitz Wasserscheidestein is a watershed highlighted through art. When the water runs into the channel, another dimension is added; it’s the water that decides and, thanks to the specific quantity supplied and the precise orientation towards the cardinal points of the compass, it flows down in an easterly and westerly direction.
